Raw Food Diet - Why is Drinking Green Smoothies Essential For Optimal Health

Drinking blended greens is essential to optimal health for everyone - regardless of the predominant diet which the person is eating.

Today, Greens occupy a tiny section of most supermarkets, but yet these are humble power houses which gives us life, healing powers and precious nourishment.

Chlorophyll
The magic of Green leaves from plants lie in their ability to turn energy from the sun into nutrients and oxygen through photosynthesis.

It has been proven in research that chlorophyll can oxygenate, rejuvenate body cells and even cure degenerative diseases. When we consume greens, our cells are nourished with oxygen which enables them to heal and perform at optimum.

Alkalinity
When cells are oxygenated properly, cell respiration becomes strong and steady - resulting in an alkaline environment.

An alkaline PH is vital for maximum health while cancer cells grows and multiplies in an acidic body.

Fiber
Greens provide us with insoluble fiber which is important for elimination. It is impossible to eliminate properly without enough fiber in the diet. Most conventional cooked and meat based diet provide insufficient fiber.

When fiber is lacking, the body's natural ability to eliminate malfunctions and that's when the skin takes on the tough task of detoxification. The skin is the best indicator of how clean the body is internally!

Why then a green smoothie?
The blending action breaks down the cellular walls of greens and fruits, thus releasing valuable minerals, vitamins and other phytonutrients. These are then delivered to individual cells which are ready for assimilation. Your body is relieved of the digestive burden but yet at the same time, probably taking in much more nutrients than most of the other meals of the day!

Most people are not able to consume greens in sufficient amounts because of low stomach acid levels. By blending, you have already broken down the food particles into a perfect size for absorption. This allows your body to produce lower stomach acid but yet not suffer from indigestion problems.

Things to look out for when consuming green smoothies:

Rotate Greens
It is imperative to rotate the greens you take, just like with any other fruit or vegetable. Nature has it such that not one single fruit, vegetable or green has the full spectrum of health giving benefits for humans. The fact is, there is no single super, all-encompassing food which humans can survive on for long without some form of deficiency problem.

You will know that this is true when you keep on eating the same green or fruit day after day. After some time, you may find that the food loses its appeal or taste less delicious to you.

Fresh is always best
In Singapore, try not to go overnight. The best time to have your green smoothie is right after it is poured out from your blender! In a humid country like Singapore, green smoothies do not keep well.

Even if you store it in the fridge, it is not advisable to leave it overnight, because the taste always deteriorates.

Shih Tzu - Is The Food You Feed Causing Health Problems?

One method of determining whether the food you feed your shih tzu is affecting its health or producing problem symptoms is to keep a health journal.

It is time consuming, but will be invaluable for determining whether there is a link between his diet and his condition. You can diagnose or better yet help your vet diagnose your shih tzu's itchy skin, whereas otherwise, it might be impossible and cost you a lot more money in vet bills after your vet has to run test after test based upon the only symptom you report being "itchy skin." You may even still end up with a shih tzu with itchy skin. You can do a little homework on your own and put your money into your own investigations. Then take the entire journal to your vet and show him what you have done so far to determine what is causing your shih tzu's problems, or better yet, solve it yourself and never visit the vet.

In your journal, list the foods you give your shih tzu and their major ingredients, note outbreaks of increased or renewed itching, ear infections or paw-licking, whatever problem you think his diet might be causing. Change the food. Note symptoms. After about six months into your project, go back over your notes to see if symptoms increase when certain ingredients are fed, or do symptoms decrease.

Keep the date, your shih tzu's health problems and assets, results of veterinary exams or tests, the type of food or foods you feed him and the food's major ingredients (this would be the percentage of protein and fat). The major ingredients in any dog food are always listed first.

Periodically look through the data for trends such as: Did your shih tzu's itchy skin or coat problems go down or up when you switched to that "food." Did some foods trigger diarrhea and only go away when you switched to another food?

My tests were simple. I merely changed all my dogs to HealthyPetNet Life's Abundance Dog Food and Treats. The diarrhea problems and loose stool problems disappeared. The dogs I had that were itching because of their diet, stopped itching. I had a few that did have other skin problems (minor) in which I sought the help of a vet for resolution. Other than that, my shih tzu are thriving better than ever before since we switched to HealthyPetNet Life's Abundance Dog Food.

Your tests may not reveal the same. Not every shih tzu is alike. I do have several different bloodlines, however, and the food has agreed with them all, which is kind of unusual. Which food to feed my shih tzu has always been a huge problem for me at Stain Glass Shih Tzu. Based upon my experiences and observations with the shih tzu I presently own, HealthyPetNet Life's Abundance has proved to be the best of all. It could be your tests prove differently. Just keep your journal. Read the dog food labels. Know that the main ingredients are listed first. Then make your decision of whether or not it is the diet of your shih tzu causing the problems you seek to solve.

Can Chocolate Benefit Your Health?

If you're a fan of chocolate you're in good company. Chocolate is one of the most popular sweet-tasting treats in the world and has been for centuries. But part of the myth surrounding chocolate is that it tastes so good it must be bad for your health. Which gives it an air of the forbidden.

A beautifully wrapped box of chocolates has always been considered a very romantic gift. So if the special person in your life is a self-confessed chocoholic, you know one surefire way to please them on special occasions. But the surprising news from the scientific community is that this reputedly decadent treat actually has some health benefits, especially if you choose your chocolate wisely.

Is Chocolate A Health Food?

Chocolate contains over 300 chemicals, and has been the subject of a number of studies by universities and other scientific organizations. Here's a quick rundown of the results. We have no way of proving or disproving these claims so we offer them here as a stimulus for further research. If you're really interested in the subject, this may provide you with a starting point.

* Cacao, the source of chocolate, contains antibacterial agents that fight tooth decay. Of course, this is counteracted by the high sugar content of milk chocolate.

* The smell of chocolate may increase theta brain waves, resulting in relaxation.

* Chocolate contains phenyl ethylamine, a mild mood elevator.

* The cocoa butter in chocolate contains oleic acid, a mono-unsaturated fat which may raise good cholesterol.

* Drinking a cup of hot chocolate before meals may actually diminish appetite.

* Men who eat chocolate live a year longer than those who don't.

* The flavanoids in chocolate may help keep blood vessels elastic.

* Chocolate increases antioxidant levels in the blood.

* Mexican healers use chocolate to treat bronchitis and insect bites.

* The carbohydrates in chocolate raise serotonin levels in the brain, resulting in a sense of well-being.

What Chocolate Won't Do

There are many myths and half-truths about the effects of chocolate on the human body. Here are the latest findings on several of them.

* Studies show that chocolate is not a causative factor in acne.

* Cacao contains the stimulants caffeine and bromine, but in such small quantities that they don't cause nervous excitability.

* Chocolate is not addictive.

* Chocolate contains stearic acid, a neutral fat which doesn't raise bad cholesterol.

* Chocolate doesn't make you 'high'. You'd need to eat a huge quantity (about 25lbs at one sitting) to feel any noticeable effect.

But On The Negative Side...

1. Chocolate may trigger headaches in migraine sufferers.

2. Milk chocolate is high in calories, saturated fat and sugar.

What About Chocolate And Your Pets?

Chocolate is considered dangerous to animals because it contains a stimulant called theobromine, which they can't digest.

Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are even more dangerous because they contain higher concentrations of the substance. This applies whether chocolate is in candy bar form, or an ingredient in cake, cookies, puddings or ice cream.

If a pet becomes ill after eating chocolate, take it to the vet immediately.

Dark Chocolate Versus Milk Chocolate

Dark chocolate contains more cacao and less sugar than milk chocolate. It follows that any health benefits would be more pronounced in dark chocolate.

Dark chocolate is allowed on the popular Montaignac diet while milk chocolate is not.

You'll need to do a little research if you have any health concerns about eating chocolate. But with products like gluten-free and sugar-free brands finding their way onto supermarket shelves, you're sure to find some form of chocolate you can enjoy with a clear conscience.

Why Be Concerned About Your Nail Beds?

Your nail beds have surfaced as a barometer of your personal health. Your nail beds can tell you a lot more about your health than you think they can. Now fingernail disorders are not only a source of embarrassment for you but they may also indicate that something is seriously wrong with your well being.

I encourage you to take a serious look at your nail beds; are your nail beds a healthy pink color with a smooth perfectly formed curved surface? Or do you see some discoloration, dents, white spots, lines, ridges, hangnails, or just plain irregular shaping of your nails? Now I do not wish to over alarm you, because some of these signs are not a cause for your concern, others could indicate fungal infections, heart disease, anemia, diabetes and even more. First check out your nail hygiene just to be sure you are doing the right thing. Remember cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Your healthy body will support the healthy growth of your nails; this is noticed by the curve of your nails that will follow the natural curve of your finger. If you are healthy, it follows that all the parts of your body are also healthy. How can you tell? Look at the end of your nails; you should see a half moon type curve. This shape is due to the fact that your finger is round and the nail just naturally curves around it, or at least it should. Of course if you have short nails this will be more difficult to see if your nails are shaped well.

Some of the things to pay attention to and if seen should be checked out by your health professional are as follows:
- There may be a heart or respiratory problem if your nails curl under at the tips.
- If they are raised at the base, you may have a respiratory problem and when they are square and wide suspect a possible hormonal problem.
- If you should find them to be flat and thin you may have a vitamin deficiency, especially vitamin B12.

It is safe to suggest that if your nails do not look healthy to you, have them checked out. As always, you must live well to be well.

Good Food Good Health-Diesel Pollution

Did you know that Diesel Fumes are destroying our Health?

Most of us today drive, and in many families each member possesses their own vehicle, and being honest we too can be counted in this category.

Ted and I have our own cars and so does the eldest daughter, the youngest will be starting driving lessons next week on her seventeenth birthday and would love her own car, and I guess we are just like every other family up and down the country.

But do we really need them? If we all knew the damage that we are doing to ourselves perhaps we might think twice and cut back.

With the amount of cars and lorries on the road today, especially in towns and cities, we all know pollution from fumes are bound to build up, but did you realise that our health suffers, our arteries are being clogged up by these fumes, leading to an increase of strokes and heart attacks.

Pollution is causing deadly hardening of the arteries through a chain reaction in the blood, from the exhaust emissions of cars, busses and lorries.

This is really bad news for people who suffer from chronic heart disease and lung conditions. Staying outside when pollution levels are high for any period of time should be avoided, to minimise any problems.

I find this quite disturbing as although I feel and look completely healthy, through contracting bronchial pneumonia as a teenager and having a really nasty chest infection two years ago, I am now considered to have COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

I am so pleased that the new 'no smoking in public enclosed areas' has become law, so now we can enjoy having a drink, eating a meal or dancing in a club, with clean air around us and our clothes and hair still smell fresh. More importantly not breathing in second hand smoke. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life, but I do wonder how many I have passively smoked without knowing it and how its damaged my health.

For some time now scientists have known about the link between strokes and heart disease with pollution, but only recently have found through a new study that blood vessel inflammation is caused by fine particles of diesel pollution, these particles 'work' with an artery clogging cholesterol which then switch on the genes to cause the inflammation.

I think we all know that we are guilty of causing pollution, but we have grown up enjoying our freedom, myself too, and it is so very hard to give up or change out ways, but small changes really do help.

There are several schemes where people can share driving into work; I do this with my friend three days a week. Not only is it beneficial to the environment, it saves money through only one parking and petrol payment and obviously less wear and tear.

The school run is one of the biggest offenders, when our vehicles probably are lucky to get off choke. We were lucky with our primary school being only 800 metres or so from home, that we always walked, but the pressure was there from the children who saw others being ferried by car, living just a couple of doors away, who did not get cold or wet. So some days it was a battle but the only time I gave in was due to illness.

Park and ride schemes are good, keeping more vehicles out of our town centres helping to eliminate some of the pollution. Unfortunately in our area these services do not run on Sundays or bank holidays, when nowadays towns are just as busy as a regular working day.

Not only does the pollution cause us great harm, but also our wildlife and plants. Many trees in cities and towns are dying because of the fumes. We really do need to act now, however small, to try and curb some of our wasted journeys.

I have heard people saying, we do not have to worry as we live in the country side and the air is of good quality, but if we all think like this and carry on as we are the country side is going to suffer as well.

For our health and our children's health we really should all be trying to cut back, a study found that new asthma cases are on the increase in general but has sharply elevated in children over the last decade. These findings were especially high in areas where there is more pollution from exhaust fumes.

Do not forget good food is good health

Men's Sexual Health & Lasting Longer - Psychology, Food, and How Men Can Last Longer in Bed

When it comes to lasting longer in bed for men, it's important to consider the whole package. Think of yourself as a finely tuned athlete. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a finely tuned athlete is the "whole package". He's/she's fit and they train specifically for their event, they are careful what they put in their body, and they are mentally prepared for the challenges they must endure to be a success.

It should be the same when you consider men's sexual health. We should think of ourselves as finely tuned athletes (especially if we want to be the best in the game).

Let's talk about food first. Understand that no food or combination of foods will solve a problem relating to premature ejaculation all by itself. Think of it like this. If an aspiring Olympic swimmer just ate the perfect diet, but did not train physically and mentally would he enjoy success in the pool? No way! It's the same with men's sexual health. It's the whole package. Here are a couple of food/natural supplement tips:

--Guys that are prone to premature ejaculation may benefit from the use of the Californian flower essence Hibiscus, suggests a southern California doctor. Tension and lack of emotional connection are common reasons a man has sexual problems. The Hibiscus is said to relax the man and help restore his warmth to the sexual relationship.

-- Blueberries are a sexual super-food often referred to as 'nature's little blue pill' because of its remarkable similarities to the wonder drug 'Viagra'. However, unlike 'Viagra', blueberries are cheap, easily available and able to be consumed in bulk. The good thing about blueberries in regards to your sexual health lies in what they contain. First, they are packed with soluble fiber, which helps push excess cholesterol through your digestive system before it can be broken down, absorbed, and deposited in your arteries. Blueberries are also high in compounds that help relax your blood vessels and improve circulation throughout your body. An extra benefit (aside from the obvious) lower cholesterol and improved blood flow is more blood to you penis during intercourse and firmer erections as you get older.

Regarding the psychology behind lasting longer in bed and sexual health for men, this is one of the biggest deterrents to lasting like a marathon man in bed. Because of the taboo or embarrassment associated with masturbating, guys often learn to get it done quickly to avoid being caught. This is the leading cause of premature ejaculation. We're learned to be in a hurry. We simply need to change some of our thought patterns and follow a well formatted sexual health exercise program.

The tough thing about learning to be a sexual athlete is that we don't have coaches. We really just need to go it alone. Do we really need to go it alone? Granted, there are not many coaches like a baseball player or a swimmer might have. There are, however, some good resources that you can discreetly download online that will coach you all the way to your optimal sexual health level (physically, mentally, and nutritionally). Just be willing to be coached and stick to the program and you will find success guaranteed.

The Health Benefits Of Raw Food

Well raw food would include any naturally grown edible food, vegetables, fruits, sprouted grains and shoots, nuts and seeds. Some raw diets now include meats, fish (i.e. sushi) and raw milk. It is food which has not been treated with any chemical process, pasteurization or has been damaged within the heating process of cooking.

Raw food has been popular with some groups throughout history, but in the 90s, a real movement took hold and a body of evidence began to grow showing the undoubted health benefits.

Cooking food destroys the natural enzymes and molecular structure. Our bodies have a limited amount of natural enzymes and these help with the digestion of food when we eat; these enzymes are used up in the digestion process and may become depleted over time.

Enzymes are also used to keep our bodies naturally balanced within the ph (potential hydrogen) scale; this is a measurement of acid and alkaline within our body. It is believed that a natural balance of ph is shown as 6.5 to achieve optimum health, (0) is shown as the most acidic state and (14) is seen as the most alkaline.

Some lifestyles and eating habits - cooking food, additives, preservatives, smoking, drinking, high levels of caffeine intake and saturated fats all assist in raising the acidity levels.

To keep our bodies in a more neutralized alkaline state, our body uses minerals naturally from our bones, body fluids and tissues and these become depleted. Thus leading to increased early aging of our bodies, arthritic conditions, viruses etc. which lead to more long term serious illnesses, chronic disease's and suffering.

Cooked food also creates an increase in white blood cells when eaten, which causes your immune system to work harder. (Combining cooked with raw food can prevent this). Not a problem for most people, but it is easy to see that a raw food diet can have a huge impact on those with a compromised immune system.

Most people who have started a raw diet have noticed themselves feeling healthier, have increased energy levels, marked changes in their appearance, a sense of feeling years younger and even weight gain or loss, dependent on what the body requires. In addition, some of these changes have been noticed within days or weeks rather than months or years.

So, eating more healthily with a raw diet will aid in building up the immune system, add more vitamins, will nutritionally balance your ph level and help to prevent disease.

An entirely raw diet may be undesirable for many, and even staunch proponents often consume around an 80 - 90% raw diet. But for everyone, incorporating at least a few raw elements can have significant impact on all round health.

It can also have benefits on the environment, with less use of chemicals and pesticides by farming more organically, using more traditional farming methods, less packaging, produce being purchased more locally, leading to less transportation, which in turn would lead to less carbon emissions.

So, Raw Food? Healthier, all round.

And raw food health supplements can of course also have a role to play

Alleviating Menopausal Symptoms With Health Foods and Herbs

Yes, many women simply cannot bear the thought of having to undergo HRT or Hormone Replacement Therapy for the rest of their lives. There is always the fear that it comes bundled with potential risks. This is why more and more women are looking at alternate methods of coping with menopause.

Here are the stages of menopause in a woman's life. The first stage begins around the age of 40. This is when the ovaries first start slowing down in most women and start producing less of the hormone estrogen. So there is a slight change in the periods - sometimes heavier and sometimes lighter. This is followed by the second stage which is the transition phase to actual menopause. Yes, the erratic periods could go on but you also start experiencing vaginal dryness, hot flashes, insomnia and mood swings. And they don't just visit occasionally- they become part of your life! Then comes the actual menopause. This usually happens a bit after you turn 50 and you are said to be past it when a full year goes by without getting a period. It is these in between years that are the tough ones.

What wouldn't you give for natural alternatives to HRT? But there are, you know. And not too many people know or recommend them even though it is much better for women to go the natural route at this stage. The first thing to do would be to make a few changes in your diet. Include a lot of fish and vegetables in your diet and cut out the coffee, tea, dairy products that are high-fat, alcohol, salt, too much oil and sugar. These can increase the symptoms. Also make sure you take a multivitamin every day and though this should not be a substitute, it is good to get your daily need of nutrients.

Menopause also has mood swings which women have to contend with during this time. What helps a lot is meditation, deep breathing or some form of relaxation. If you can spare around 20 minutes each day, you will benefit greatly. It leaves you feeling in control, much more calm and relaxed and able to cope. You should also exercise regularly, at least three times a week, thirty minutes each time. This is said to reduce hot flashes as well as lessen the possibilities of heart problems and osteoporosis. Acupressure and yoga help as well.

You should also take the herbal route. There are plants and herbs called phytoestrogens which tend to help the estrogen activity in the body. These contain the compounds phytoseterols, isoflavins, lignans and saponins. Not only does it get you through menopause, it also reduces the occurrence of breast tumors. Other herbs and foods that are helpful to mitigate the symptoms of menopause are: Honduran sarsaparilla, lady's slipper, liferoot, Soy, black cohosh, licorice, dates, elder, false unicorn root, fennel, alfalfa, chasteberry, Chinese angelica, Mexican wild yams, passion flower, pomegranates, red clover, strawberry, celery stalks and sassafras. You'll find most of them in your local health food store. Do include as many of them as you can in your diet, as often as you can and you'll probably find you sail through your menopause with as few problems and as little discomfort as possible!

Food For Good Prostate Health

The prostate gland has a reputation as a health destroyer. Hypertrophy of the prostate gland, which affects nearly every elderly male, strangles the urethra. This troublesome condition makes urination difficult and increases the risk of bladder infections and kidney damage.

However, there are many good foods that may already be a part of your everyday diet that can help thwart the onset of prostate problems.

Tomatoes, watermelons, red grapefruit, papaya and red berries are all great sources of lycopene, a health-promoting plant pigment known for its cancer-battling ability. It also promotes a strong immune system and helps support prostate health in men.

Though fresh are always an excellent option, the lycopene in cooked tomatoes is actually absorbed more readily by the body. It is also your ally in the battle against heart disease.

Quercetin, a flavonoid that forms the backbone of many other flavonoids, may have positive effects in combating or helping to prevent many different types of cancer, including prostate. It also acts as an antihistamine and has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be helpful in relieving the pain of an inflamed prostate.

Foods rich in quercetin include apples, black and green tea, onions, raspberries, red wine, red grapes, citrus fruits, broccoli and other leafy green vegetables, and cherries. Quercetin can also be found in honey and sap, including the type from eucalyptus and tea tree flowers.

It is vital to remember to get a healthy balance of foods to keep your prostate healthy, including antioxidants, vitamin E from nuts and seeds, and drink plenty of clear fluids to help flush the bladder.

Try to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods. Keeping your weight in check will also help maintain a healthy prostate.

Learn the truth about prostate cancer treatments. It is very important for you to be as knowledgeable about prostate cancer as you can be.
